Now in its fifth year, this highly interactive forum continues to weave together all the constituent audiences attending LabAutomation2011 to learn about and discuss the latest innovations in laboratory automation and technology products and services.
The evening offers quick, discerning information-bites from approximately 15 companies or institutions serving the many industries employing the science of laboratory automation. This is specifically a venue for companies to showcase their latest products and technology improvements.
The intent from the attendee perspective is to provide an efficient way to learn about news and trends on the commercial front. Attendee participants will enjoy fertile ground for question-and-answer in an open-space atmosphere serving complimentary refreshments and beverages. Seating will be limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission is free simply requiring all participants to register as an exhibit-only attendee.
Rapid-Fire Innovation Program Outline
The program consists of three 40 or-so minute sessions set to take place in the Mojave Learning Center at the Renaissance Palm Springs Hotel; Monday, January 31 from 7-9 pm (local time). Each session will be moderated by one of the following organizational leaders:
- Anne Kopf-Sill, past ALA President & SLAS Member
- Andy Zaayenga, LRIG Executive Chair & SLAS Member
- Steve Fillers, LRIG Executive Board Member-At-Large
Rules for Presenters
Each presentation may be up to six minutes in length and contain up to four slides. There will be two minutes for questions-and-answers following each presentation. Participating companies are encouraged to cover the following topics:
- What new product or capability is offered commercially in the previous 12 months?
- How is this different from previously-offered products? How does it compare to similar products offered by competitors?
- Why is this capability important?
- What problems had to be overcome to make it a reality?
- On what day was it commercially released?
- What is list price? (optional)
- What is best way to get more information? (stop by booth in exhibit all, website, handouts)
Application Instructions
- Companies must submit an application for consideration
- Application Deadline: Thursday, December 2, 2010 - 4 pm (US CENTRAL)
- On the application form, include answers to the following questions:
- What is new capability or product?
- How is it different from earlier products and competitors' products?
- Why is it important to laboratory automation?
- What is list price? (optional)
- On what date was or will it is commercially available?
- We will accept products that have been released in the previous 12 months (January 2010 - February 2011).
- Decisions will be made and communicated by Monday, January 3, 2011.
- The selection process
Working from the applications submitted online only, the session moderators will qualify and select companies for presentation which offer the best opportunity for an enlightening and enriching evening experience for the attendee. SLAS and LRIG reserve the right to select and deselect any company at any given time. All decisions are final. Inclusive, but not limited to, the moderator's decision criteria may be prioritized by:
- thoroughness in answering questions listed above
- likelihood to be of interest to LabAutomation2011 attendees
- impact on the field of laboratory automation and technology
- technical originality
- availability, and
- seminal integration and of automation strategies
- Upon being selected to participate, presentation slides must be submitted to Amy McGorry, SLAS Senior Manager, Administration & Member Services, no later than the close of business Monday, January 10, 2011 — no exceptions. Any slides not received by the deadline will be dropped from the program. There is no penalty for dropping out of the program prior to January 10, 2011. - Exhibitors and non-exhibitors may submit applications. Non-exhibitor applications must demonstrate a higher level of innovation to be considered for this program.
- Both end-user and OEM companies may submit applications as well. OEM applications must be of interest to attendees.
- These talks are intended to give attendees a quick way to learn about new product offerings and technology. For technology and inventions that require more extensive discussion, speakers are encouraged to submit abstracts for the standard sessions.
