The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening

Purpose

SLAS is an Illinois not for profit corporation formed on January 12, 2010. It is organized and operated exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes as defined by Internal Revenue Code Section ("IRC") 501(c) (3). In particular, SLAS's exempt purpose is to advance laboratory science and technology through education, scientific research, and to serve as a public forum for the exchange of information related to laboratory science and technology.

Mission Statements

SLAS is a global organization that exists to provide forums for education and information exchange to encourage the study of, and improve the science and practice of, laboratory automation and screening.

  • Biomolecular Sciences Section
    To advance SLAS's exempt purposes with respect to the science and technology of drug discovery and the use and development of biomolecular screening technology.

  • Laboratory Automation Section
    To advance SLAS's exempt purpose by furthering science and education related to laboratory automation, and in particular by encouraging and advancing the study and improving the practice of laboratory automation.

Tax Exempt Status

At the present time, contributions or gifts to SLAS are not deductible as charitable contributions for state or federal income tax purposes. However, SLAS is in the process of applying to the Internal Revenue Service for a determination that it is exempt from federal income tax pursuant to IRC Section 501(c) (3). If SLAS is determined to be exempt from federal income tax pursuant to IRC 501(c) (3), contributions and gifts to SLAS will be deductible as charitable contributions. SLAS will provide an update on its website regarding its tax exempt status when it changes. If you have questions regarding the tax deductibility of charitable contributions in general or with respect to SLAS in particular you are urged to consult your personal tax advisor.

Additional Information

SLAS believes it is important to make information about its operations, including its governance, finances, programs, and activities widely available to the public. Toward this end SLAS makes the following document available:

  • Bylaws

  • IRS Form 1023. SLAS was formed on January 12, 2010. SLAS is in the process of preparing IRS Form 1023. Once it is completed and filed with the IRS a copy shall be posted here.

  • IRS Form 990(s). SLAS's was formed on January 12, 2010. Its initial tax period ended on June 30, 2010. SLAS will post its Form 990 and Form 990T each is filed with the IRS for the three (3) most recent tax years.
