The SLAS Student Internship Program

Please be sure to visit this web page often as we announce new internships currently under development, and unveil other major strategic student-focused partnerships with industry.

SLAS recognizes the importance of fostering a well-educated and well-trained workforce to fuel the next generation of scientific and engineering achievement. Our internship program is designed to help connect promising young scientists and engineers with companies offering a quality experience involving laboratory science and technology.

Access to our exclusive worldwide network of internship opportunities and funding for travel to SLAS educational conferences through this program is for SLAS student members only. To become a student member for only $25, click here.

The process is simple:

  • Each year, hiring companies will post qualified and relative internships from their existing programs on the SLAS website.
  • SLAS student members (undergraduate, graduate and post-docs) may then apply for these internships via SLAS, directly to the hiring companies. The existing hiring processes at participating companies apply.

Current Opportunities:

  1. GlaxoSmithKline 2012 Summer Co-op Program in Research & Development

Hiring Companies
If your company is interested in listing its internships with SLAS, please contact SLAS Manager, Member Products and Services, at slas@slas.org or +1.630.256.SLAS (7527), ext. 103.

Internships listed as part of this SLAS program should becommitted to fostering the development of talented undergraduate, graduate students or post docs seeking to further their knowledge through hands-on experience involving laboratory sciences and technology.

Specifically, we are looking for internships focused on research projects with the potential to advance the disciplines, technologies and skills involved in laboratory automation, screening and molecular discovery, and the training of students in these areas.

An internship should be a defined project that can be carried out in the period assigned. The goal of the project should be to produce work suitable for sharing in a public scientific forum, such as publication, presentation or poster. It is strongly recommended that if an intern is going to publish or present information from this program it be through an SLAS journal or conference event.

Student Applicants
Students interested in applying for an internship may do so by completing and submitting the SLAS Application.

This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, and post docs that have already completed one year in an academic screening environment or participated in an academic screening or laboratory technology project. Students should have basic laboratory skills and an understanding of the assays and technology tools used in the biomolecular sciences. A strong letter of recommendation from a screening center head or professor would be beneficial.

SLAS student members selected for an internship position will be strongly considered for grant funding for travel, lodging and registration at a future SLAS conference in which they may present their internship project work.

The interview process is conducted solely by the hiring company. Incomplete applications will be discarded.
