By Alan E. Fletcher, Ph.D. How do YOU find the information you need to accomplish daily tasks? While I suspect answers are varied, no doubt finding and consulting reputable sources is high on the list. SLAS is making that ‘finding and consulting’ even easier for members of our community as we strive to deliver more information in a variety of ways.

How do YOU find the information you need to accomplish daily tasks? While I suspect answers are varied, no doubt finding and consulting reputable sources is high on the list. SLAS is making that ‘finding and consulting’ even easier for members of our community as we strive to deliver more information in a variety of ways.
The annual SLAS International Conference and Exhibition and the two SLAS peer-viewed scientific journals remain the key SLAS information sources.
SLAS Discovery reports how scientists develop and utilize novel technologies and/or approaches to provide and characterize chemical and biological tools to understand and treat human disease. Ten issues are published annually with online publication within 30 days of acceptance. Editor-in-Chief is Robert M. Campbell, Ph.D., Eli Lilly and Company, Indianapolis, IN.
SLAS Technology explores ways in which scientists adapt advancements in technology for scientific exploration and experimentation. Six issues are published annually with online publication within 30 days of acceptance. Editor-in-Chief is Edward Kai-Hua Chow, Ph.D., National University of Singapore.

SLAS has expanded its topical events with a total of four symposia being held in 2019. By the time you read this we will have just concluded the European Sample Management Symposium in Berlin, Germany. SLAS will hold its inaugural AI in Process Automation Symposium in October in Boston, MA, USA, and the Americas Sample Management Symposium in November (also in Boston). Another Advanced 3D Human Models and High-Content Analysis Symposium also will be held in October in London, U.K. We are excited to expand our reach throughout Europe and bring new topical events to our growing and inquisitive life sciences discovery and technology professional community.
After a highly successful inaugural event in 2018, the second SLAS Europe Conference and Exhibition is scheduled for June 26-28, 2019, in Barcelona, Spain. Themed Innovative Technologies for Tomorrow’s Discoveries, the conference is organized around four scientific tracks:
Conference Chairs Stuart Baddeley, vice president, GSK; Ignasi Belda, Ph.D., researcher, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya; and Ute Vespermann, Ph.D., market development specialist Europe, Corning Life Sciences, encourage you to register by May 6 to take advantage of the early bird discount.
The basic premise behind SLAS symposia is to present high-quality information on a focused topic in a smaller venue.
We’ve just concluded the 2019 SLAS European Sample Management Symposium in Berlin, Germany. Some 130 compound and sample management professionals – from bench scientists to senior leaders – spent a few days immersed in discussion around these session topics: Working in Partnership; Pursuit of Quality; Sample Operations Case Studies; and Innovation in Sample Management. The energy was high and the discussion robust – my congratulations to the Program Committee!
Make plans to join us at the symposia still on the calendar for this year.
