Researchers throughout Asia already play an important role in the SLAS journal community, with Asia representing the leading region for submissions across both SLAS Discovery and SLAS Technology and particularly strong engagement from mainland China.

SLAS Discovery publishes innovative research advancing drug discovery and life sciences R&D, focusing on enabling technologies, approaches and applications that improve the discovery and development of new therapeutics.

SLAS Technology publishes research on innovative technologies, methods and applications that advance laboratory science and automation, including instrumentation, diagnostics, microfluidics, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
Asian researchers are strongly represented among SLAS authors, with mainland China and India among the journals’ top contributing countries.

Staff Research Scientist

Chang Liu, PhD, is a Staff Research Scientist of SCIEX (Ontario, Canada), specializing in hardware research on the MS sample preparation and sample introduction technologies. Chang earned his BSc in Chemistry from Peking University, China, and his PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, Canada. He is the recipient of the 2021 Bioanalysis Outstanding Contribution Award (BOSCA), 2022 Young Investigator Award from the Chinese American Society for Mass Spectrometry (CASMS), and 2026 PerkinElmer Analytical Sciences and Spectroscopy Award, and an SLAS Fellow. Liu has published more than 70 research papers and held more than 30 issued patents. He is the editor of the book “High-Throughput Mass Spectrometry in Drug Discovery” (Wiley 2023), and the organizer of the 2026 ASMS Asilomar Conference. Liu serves as an Associate Editor of SLAS Technology (impact factor 3.7), and is on the Editorial Board of Current Molecular Pharmacology (impact factor 7.2).

Postdoctoral Research Associate
Brown University Institute for Biology, Engineering, and Medicine
Ramisa Fariha, PhD, is a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at the Giuliani RNA Center, Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry, at Brown University, where she leads the RNA Mass Spectrometry Core. A biomedical engineer, translational researcher, and mass spectrometrist, she develops high-sensitivity mass spectrometry technologies for nucleoside detection and RNA modification profiling in support of the Human RNome Project, building on the patented dried-blood-spot microsampling diagnostic device she pioneered during her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Brown. A 2024 STAT Wunderkind, NPA IMPACT Fellow, and two-time MSACL Young Investigator Award recipient, she serves as an Editorial Board Member of SLAS Discovery and a Reviewing Editor for Nature Biotechnology, and is committed to making advanced bioanalytical technologies more accessible worldwide, starting with a single drop of blood.

Group Head, Screening Discovery Platform
Institut Pasteur Korea
David Shum, MS, MBA, is the Group Leader for the Screening Discovery Platform at Institut Pasteur Korea, which focuses on early drug discovery, high-content, and high-throughput screening. He has worked for nearly 20 years exploring phenotypic-based approaches to unravel disease mechanisms, thereby refining the drug discovery pipeline. Early in his career, Shum was part of a multi-institutional project at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to develop and validate one of the first high-throughput confocal microscopes. This was applied at industrial scale to screen compound and functional genomic libraries towards understanding mechanisms in oncology. In the current position at IPK, he and his team focus on infectious diseases and building advanced phenotypic assay models along viral, parasitic, and microbial pathogens. This work combines multidisciplinary approaches in biology, chemistry and informatics, including AI, to provide an essential pipeline for preparing for and responding to pandemics.

Jenny Cunningham, MS, is the Publishing Manager for SLAS Discovery and SLAS Technology, where she oversees journal operations, editorial initiatives, and strategies to support the journals’ growth and global reach. She holds an MS in Publishing from Pace University and has more than 15 years of experience in publishing and communications.
