SLAS Travel Award

The SLAS Travel Award is an annual travel grant program that recognizes up-and-coming researchers who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in laboratory science and technology with funding to attend the SLAS International Conference and Exhibition.

Students, graduate students, post-doctoral associates, and junior faculty with less than four years in their first academic appointments, and professionals who have completed undergraduate and/or graduate school and are within the first five years of their careers, are also eligible to apply.

Submit an Abstract

Submission Rules

An applicant must be the primary author of a submitted abstract and must present their research in either a poster or oral (podium) session at the conference. Submitted award applications are reviewed by members of the SLAS Travel Award selection panel and are based on multiple factors, including but not limited to:

Quality of the abstract
The relevance of the research to the SLAS2026 conference
Statement of the value of the conference
Qualifications of the applicant
No more than three applications from the same lab can be submitted per conference. Such applications should all be distinct research topics.
One PI should not write letters of support for more than three students.

The SLAS Travel Award may only be awarded to the same individual twice over the course of their career: once for a Poster presentation and once for Podium presentation, providing the work submitted is significantly different.

The award covers the following:

Travel stipend including shared hotel accommodations (up to 4 nights) and airfare or train fare.
One pre-conference short course registration
Invitation to be featured on the SLAS podcast, New Matter: Inside the Minds of SLAS Scientists
Invitation to receive mentoring through the SLAS Mentor Match Program

Multiple applicants from a single research group are allowed to apply. However, such applicants should understand that award application reviewers may prioritize the applications to more equitably disperse travel funds across many investigators’ research groups. This decision will be based on funding availability and the criteria listed above.
