Mission/Charge The Awards and Grants Committee oversees all SLAS awards, grants, scholarship and internship programs. Individual working groups formed by members of this committee and other designated SLAS members are responsible for the development and oversight of specific programs and shall have their own charters.
Specific Deliverables

This group is responsible for the oversight of all SLAS awards existing or introduced in the future. This includes awards presented in conjunction with SLAS events in North America and Europe such as: the SLAS Innovation Award, Tony B. Academic Travel Award, Student Poster Award, Innovation AveNEW and the New Product Award.

Responsibilities also include the oversight of the Graduate Education Fellowship Grant Program, the Visiting Researcher Fellowship Grant Program, the FIRST team grants program, and any other internship program that may be introduced. A member of the committee shall chair each of the judging panels for awards in conjunction with the annual meeting.

Level of Authority This group is responsible for oversight of the judging process for each award/grant as applicable, and has final approval on the selection of the Fellowship Grant and Visiting Researcher Grant as proposed by those panels.

Number of Members, Terms & Rotation

The Awards and Grants Committee shall be composed of no less than six (6) individuals, all of whom shall be Members of the Society. This Committee will have balanced representation from North America and Europe and will add geographic representation as the Society expands into other regions. Membership shall be approved by MEC.

Each member’s term shall last no more than three years with the possibility of the term being renewed one consecutive time. The committee shall rotate two members every year to allow for fresh perspectives and volunteer opportunities while maintaining continuity.

The committee shall determine its own Chair and Vice Chair. The terms of Chair and Vice Chair will be one year. The Vice Chair moves into the Chair position when their term as Vice Chair is complete, pending approval by the committee.

Desired Member Skills The Awards and Grants Committee members will be dues paying members, active participants in the Society and be willing to serve and represent SLAS as involved leaders. They will have a broad understanding of the goals and work of the Society. There is a level of time commitment that shall be understood, with travel to the International Conference and Exhibition at times required.
Type & Frequency of Meetings Teleconference calls throughout the year as needed.
Budget The AGC chair has input into the Awards and Grants section of the annual budget.
