Mike leads a global team of Field Application Scientists and Engineers to deliver tailored automation solutions and a premium customer experience. With decades of experience spanning lab operations, automation, and applied sciences, Mike has held leadership and technical roles at Opentrons, Tecan, BioReference Laboratories, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Throughout his career, Mike has focused on making complex technologies more accessible and impactful in real-world lab environments. He has led the design and implementation of automated workflows, scalable platforms, and compliance-ready solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and usability. Since joining Automata in 2022, Mike has been at the forefront of helping life sciences organizations reimagine their operations through integrated, data-driven automation.
Campos has over 20 years of experience building products in high throughput, high compliance environments, spanning digital platforms, physical automation, and data products. With a background in industrial design and engineering, he has led first-to-market innovations including Vodafone's NFC contactless payments platform, launched before Apple Pay and Google Pay, and the first distributed in-memory database, released ahead of Oracle TimesTen.
His career includes work with Ocado, Vodafone, Gatwick Airport, SIBS, and EasyJet, where he helped scale supply chain systems, replatform payments networks, and deliver computer vision and SaaS solutions for aviation operations. He has also supported startups such as UCHU and Rungway in achieving product market fit and scale. Since 2024 Rui Campos has been Vice President of Product at Automata, where he is shaping the next generation of automation for the life sciences.
