Mission / Charge The Membership Committee reviews and analyzes member needs to ensure optimal member engagement and satisfaction. This committee ensures that the Society maintains an accurate list of members (including member classification) and ensures the Professional Team creates and implements detailed recruitment and retention plans. This Committee will evaluate Engagement Scores and make recommendations for changes that would improve product scoring.
Specific Deliverables Approve any changes to membership categories, classes and pricing. Analyzes member intelligence (about SLAS members) to propose/approve new membership initiatives. Has oversight of any member recruitment and renewal practices. Has knowledge and understanding of SLAS demographics.
Level of Authority The Membership Committee recommends any changes to the membership offerings to the Membership and Engagement Council.
Other Committees/TFs/Councils with Which This Group Interacts This committee reports to the Membership and Engagement Council (MEC).
Number of Members, Terms & Rotation

The Membership Committee shall be composed of no less than six (6) individuals, all of whom shall be dues-paying members of the Society. This Committee will have balanced representation from North America and Europe and will add geographic representation as the Society expands into other regions. Membership shall be approved by the MEC. There shall be a balance of membership between not-for-profit, tech user and tech provider demographics, and from the student and early career demographic.

Each member’s term shall last no more than three (3) years with the possibility of the term being renewed one (1) consecutive time.

The committee shall rotate or renew terms of two (2) members every year to allow for fresh perspectives and volunteer opportunities while maintaining continuity.

The committee shall determine its own Chair and Vice Chair. The terms of Chair and Vice Chair will be one (1) year. The Vice Chair moves into the Chair position when their term as Vice Chair is complete, pending approval by the committee.

Desired Member Skills Membership Committee members will be dues-paying members, active participants in the Society and be willing to serve and represent SLAS as involved leaders. They will have a broad understanding of the goals and work of the Society, specifically with a good understanding of the needs of the member in all stages of their career.
Type & Frequency of Meetings Teleconference calls throughout the year as needed.
Budget The Membership chair will review the Member Products and Services section of the annual budget.
