Applications Open for the 2027 SLAS Graduate Education Fellowship Grant

For Immediate Release

Oak Brook, IL (August 5, 2026) – The Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) is now accepting applications for the 2027 SLAS Graduate Education Fellowship Grant, continuing a more than decade-long commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists through innovative graduate research funding. The fellowship provides up to $100,000 over two years to support graduate students pursuing research in life sciences, including quantitative biosciences, drug discovery and laboratory technology.

Since its establishment in 2015, the fellowship has advanced SLAS’s mission to promote laboratory science and technology by providing graduate researchers with the flexibility and resources to pursue impactful discoveries. As the scientific research community faces volatility related to future research funding, this longstanding program remains an important source of support for emerging scientists.

SLAS will award one fellowship to a qualified educational institution on behalf of a deserving graduate student, providing up to $50,000 per year for a maximum of two years. Eligible applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree program related to high-throughput screening, quantitative biosciences and/or drug discovery.

Applications are evaluated based on the quality and originality of the research, its relevance to laboratory automation and screening, and the institution’s ability to support the student’s work.

Past recipient Benjamin David of the University of Michigan highlighted the flexibility and the fellowship provided throughout his research journey.

"As I progress through this project, if I find an interesting aspect of the research, I have the freedom to pause and explore that new area. That wouldn't be possible with other types of grants tied to specific work."

Applications are due Monday, November 9, 2026

Graduate students, faculty members and educational institutions are encouraged to share this opportunity and apply
